Hurricane Rita destroyed approximately 90% of Cameron's buildings including the essential public service buildings of the Police Jury and related agencies.  The Parish Courthouse was the only public services building still standing but did receive significant damage and introduced the need to relocate selected services from the Courthouse to a new Civic Complex called Cameron Square.
