The Louisiana Bicentennial Quilt, "Stitch by Stitch, Binding
Together 200 Years of Louisiana History,” make its way to Cameron Parish on
January 10, 2013 – January 12, 2013. The quilt was on display at the Cameron
Library during the 55th Annual Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival.
Louisiana celebrated its 200th anniversary of statehood
in 2012 with the construction of an official "bicentennial quilt.” Each of the
state’s 64 parishes is represented with a decorative block in the quilt.
Cameron Parish’s block was made by Mrs. Lorine
Baccigalopi, an expert needlewoman. Mrs. Baccigalopi is married to Whitney
Baccigalopi and has lived in Grand Chenier, LA all her life. She learned to
quilt from her mother at a very young age. Mrs. Baccigalopi, along with her
sister, makes several quilts a year.
